The next release from Amazon Games’ publishing arm is a new massively-multiplayer online title from the developer behind Lineage, AION, and Guild Wars.

Throne and Liberty debuted during the Summer Game Fest livestream on Thursday. It’s planned as a multi-platform, free-to-play MMORPG set in the fantasy world of Solisium.

Players take on the role of shapeshifters, who can change into the forms of various animals and monsters, including defeated enemies, for travel, camouflage, or combat. As a member of one of many feuding, player-run guilds, your goal is to gain enough power to oppose the threatening armies of Kazar, the Wraith of Conquest.

Throne is under development at NCSOFT, headquartered in South Korea. NCSOFT has been developing similar free-to-play MMOs for over 20 years, the most famous of which is arguably the original Guild Wars. NCSOFT is also the publisher for Guild Wars 2, developed at ArenaNet in Bellevue, Wash.

Amazon will publish Throne in North and South America, Europe, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. This marks the company’s latest venture into publishing partnerships, which follows similar deals with Smilegate for Lost Ark and Bandai Namco for the forthcoming Blue Protocol. Its most recently announced project from its internal development studios is an upcoming MMO based on The Lord of the Rings.

Throne and Liberty is currently slated to debut on Steam, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5. No release date was revealed. Interested players with an Amazon account can sign up for an invite-only technical test, to be held at an unspecified later date.

Other Pacific Northwest-related reveals at this year’s Summer Game Fest included a longer look at Fae Farm, a “cozy” life simulator in the spirit of Stardew Valley, developed by Vancouver B.C.’s Phoenix Labs (Dauntless), and the news that Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter, Star Trek: Discovery) is a member of the voice cast for Baldur’s Gate 3.
